The weakness of the side erosion may be caused or by dry climate or water permeability of rocks (sandstones, limestones, loess), which absorb rain water and decrease its flat flow along the valley steeps. In the areas, made up of the rocks of different density, lying aflat, gradation of the steeps may arise in a Canyon. The most famous canyons are located along the Colorado River in the North America, about 1800 m deep and 380 km long; Bzyb' and Sulak, in Russia in the Caucasus, the top of the Amu-Darya River (Piandzh and Yazgul) in the Middle Asia.
