Rus'ka St.

The powder magazines were built by the commandant of the Kamyanets'-Podil's'ka Fortress, military engineer and architect, Ya. de Vitte. In 1797, during the repair works the roof over the powder magazine was raised. In 1834, according to the project of architect, S. Uchta, the rebuilding was made. The adjoining to the powder magazines slope was cut, the fence was continued southward and closed at the foot of the slope. There were gates in its western and eastern walls. In the second half of the XIX centuries, the oil was stored in the powder magazines, and during the fire of 1878, they were greatly damaged. On the verge of the XX century, they were used as stables, later - as storehouses, that is why they were partly rebuilt.
The building is rectangular in its plan with two cut outside angles and two risalites along the northern elevation. It is fenced by a stone wall. The warehouse is 44 m long, 21.5 m long. There is one room inside the building. It is 30 m long, 6 m wide, with a corridor along the perimeter, 2 m wide. The stone vaults, covering the central room and corridors, have torispherical outline.
The roof is hipped. There are 7 niches in the main, northern elevation, and 3 niches in the side elevations. The walls are finished by high white-stone cornice. Only one of two portals remained on the risalites. The stone fence around the storehouses was rebuilt for several times and lost its original form.
The monument is an example of the military and civil architecture of the second half of the XVIII century. The historical functional meaning of the monument is successfully resembled in its architectural form. It is made in the Baroque Taste, as the monumental storehouse.
