Mala Tower (Little Tower), the end of the XIV century. Preservation #730/7 | Foto
Zamkova St.

The archaeological and architectural researches that were carried out in the Mala Tower (Little Tower) played an important role in revealing the ancient core of the Kamyanets' Castle. A special attention was payed to a small yard that was located to the east in front of the Mala Tower (Little Tower). The remains of the round tower unknown before were found there. One or two rows of walls remained from it. The internal diameter of the open Tower is 2.6 m, and the wall thickness is 1.3-1.5 m. There is a stone wall, 2 m thick, eastwards from this tower. All these facts allowed Y.M.Plamenyts'ka to think that the mentioned above Tower was the angle one and it was built in the middle of the XIII century.

It is situated on the verge of the south-western external wall of the Castle. From 1542 till 1544, the internal repairs were done by I.Pretfes. The walls were thickened by the lining and the embrasures between the toothing were with the arrangment of the unloading tie plates over them. In 1672, the Tower was damaged.
The Tower is oval in the plan, with the diameter of 2.8 and 2.2 m. It was opened to the side of the yard. From the outside it is in the form of the semicircle and step forward on 2 m from the level of the western walls. It is 7 m high from the floor side, and 3 m - from the level of the yard. The total thickness of the walls with the layers of different times is 2.5 m. On the loopholes of the first tier the remnants of layings of different times remained. Their chambers are covered with the tie plates of three-centered outline, except one in the first tier that had the architrave tie plate from the outside.
The upper tier, loopholes and ashlaring were restored in the Tower.
The monument is an example of the early flanking tower.
