Well, 1638, the 60's of the XVIII century. Preservation Number #739 | Foto
Pol's'kyi Rynok Sq.
After
1638 it was closed, as water turned out to be salty. In the 60's of the XVIII
century, the architect Ya. de Vitte overbuilt the stone octahedral pavilion
above the well. At the end of the XIX century, its ending burnt down during
the fire. Then it had been restored in the form of the hip-roof, later it burnt
down again during the Great War.
The building is two-tiered, 6 m height. In plan it is square with cut angles;
the long sides are 6.6-7.4 m, the short one are 2.9-3 m. The stone walls thichness
is 0.9 m. In the centre under the cement floor there is a concrete slab, which
covers the pit of the well, 3 m in diameter. The fronts are made in the baroque
forms. On the wide sides they are divided by two pilasters, on the narrow sides-
by one in the centre. On 3 fronts there are round windows with white-stone outside
quarters between pilasters; on the eastern front there is a doorway with bow-straight
arch. Fronts are plastered. The building is completed with a hip-roof with a
shingle covering, it is crowned with a spire.
In 1959-1960, the resoration works were carried out there.
The monument is theoriginal town-planning accent of the square.
