Dwelling
House (stone), the XVII-XIX centuries. Preservation Number #17- | Foto
6 Pol's'kyi Rynok Sq.
While
carrying out the restoration works during the final cleaning of the eastern
part of the building the fragments of the round furnace were found, and also
the fragments of the transversal and longitudinal wall of the eastern basement.
These walls formed small, right-angled in its plan chamber, where the stairs
were leading. The remnants of the round furnace were fixed in details during
the sherial demolishing. It was built on the weak clay-sandy solution. There
was a supposition, that in that times, the pottery was situated near the building.
The Potter's Tower which is situated near it (now it is a restaurant "The
Old Fortress") testifies to it. The thing is, that, as a rule, near the
named towers (Kovalska (Smith's), Kushnirska (Furrier's), Riznytska (Butcher's)
and other) there were the corresponding handicraft guilds.
The first iconographical material, which confirms the existence of the buildings,
is the engraving of Kapriyan Tomashevych, made in 1672, where the whole series
of one-storied buildings with gablle roofs are shown.
In the description of Kamyanets`, which was worked out in 1700 after releasing
it from Turkish demination, there is a mentioning about this building. At that
time the building was one-storeyed with one room, its windows faced the market,
and the basement faced one stone vault. At that time the building belonged to
Kamyanets`kyi bourgeois Paul, who was a bookbinder.
The given description had fixed the level of building up of the site till the
2-nd part of the XVII century, precisely till 1672, when Kamyanets` was seized
by Turks, and during almost 30 years of their domination none of sizeable building
works in the town weren't carried out.
In the description of the town, which corresponds approximately to 1700, it
was written: "The house of Kamyanets`kyi bourgeois windows face the
market, the yard is empty almost to the road".
In the next description of the town dated by 1734 it is mentioned, that this
building already belongs to the other owner - Antoniy Shahin, then it is already
one-storeyed and it has: a room the front one, - windows of which face the square,
and room with alcove, room from the side of inner yard. As we can see from the
given document the new owner of the building has widened the building very much.
In the plans of town dated by 1773, 1793, 1797 we can see, that besides the
main building which is located in the western part of the area there is already
an official one, righ-angled in its plan, which completes the area from the
east and main front of which face Dovga street.
It is confirmed also by the description of the town dated by 1787, where it
is said, that the building belonges to Pavlova-Shahinova.
The next description of the building is dated by 1824-1826 and it is said there,
that this building belonged to Itsko Vaynshteyn, whom the previous owner had
sold "the land with a piece of wall"; the new owner had built a building
and a wing there.
The building was two-storeyed, on the ground floor, from the side of the main
front there were 2 rooms, which were used for commerce, then over the walls
there there were two more dwelling rooms and a bakery. On the first floor there
were 2 dwelling rooms, from the side of the main front, then there were the
walls and a bakery, and from the side of inner front there were 2 dwelling rooms.
The building also had a basement. On the eastern part of the lot from the side
of Dovga Street there was a two-storied wing.
The next document is dated by 1880 - it was an application of the owner of the
building of that time Leyzor Vaynshteyn, to the town council about the permition
for the repairs of the building and covering it with a new shingles.
According to the Deed about the condition of the building (dated by 01.06.1922)
all the manor belonged to the printer's union and consisted of the main building,
located in the western part of it and wings in the eastern part.
The main building was two-storeyed and on the ground floor it had two commerce
rooms and three living rooms and corridors between them. The wing was two-storeyed.
During the Second World War the main building and the wing were damaged and
at the end of the 40's and at the beginning of the 50's of the century they
were taken to pieces, and the basements were filled up
Nowadays the building is restored (in 1997), at that outwardly it looks as it
was in the Middle Ages.
The initial planning structure of the building was renewed.
Today, the office of the National Nature Park "Podil's'ki Tovtry"
(THE PODIL'S'KI TOVTRY NNP) is located in this building.
